REMEMBER: WE´RE TALKING ABOUT AFTERBURNER II!

After Burner II
was originally planned to have a World War II theme and make it a realistic flight sim but was dropped because Yu Suzuki states that "It would not have fit the arcade scene." A pure dogfighter was not his intention.

Although the plane you pilot is a variation of the F-14, the cover art for the Mega Drive version uses an F-15E Strike Eagle.

Shenmue 2 on the Xbox and the Dreamcast (JP and EU) features a full playable version of After Burner II.

In the cut-scenes that show your jet fighter landing on a landing strip in order to reload the missile supply, there are some special vehicles that will make a cameo appearance. In the first landing, you'll see a man riding the motorcycle from "Hang-On". and in the second landing, you'll see the famous Ferrari Testarossa-like car from "Out Run".

Jimmy Cardenas holds the record for this game with 505,050 points on April 20, 1997.
